7 Witches Tools

20/09/2021

Today I would like to talk through seven of my favorite witches tools and their uses in magic. In an attempt to keep this short an sweet - let's jump into it. It is important to note that most of these tools and any other are usually not needed for you to practice, if you are a beginner witch I would recommend that you don't go out and buy the 'new, best, shinny, tool', it is more important that you focus on your own energies and learnings.

Athame

Associated with fire and air, this is a double-edged ritual dagger traditionally fixed with a black hilt, typically used to; cast circles of protection, banish negative energy and charge objects.

Bell

Bells are not, as far as I know, associated with an element. They are used to banish negative influences and for cleansing of spaces in the beginning of a ritual.

Besom

A broom used to purify rituals and celebration areas by symbolically sweeping away negative energies... I mean, if you want to multitask I suppose you could actually sweep while you're at it - provided you have your intentions set. Besoms are also used to protect against negativity and psychic attacks.

Cauldron

A pot or vessel used in the making of brews and potions. Cauldrons can also be used for divination purposes and are a symbol of death and birth/rebirth. Along with this, the cauldron is associated with water (as I'm sure you could imagine).

Censer

Also known simply as a container... usually fixed with a handle for ease of carrying and often used for burning incense during rituals. This tool is connected to the air elemental.

Pentacle

Usually a flat round disk made from stone, wood or or metal with a pentagram carved into or drawn on it. It is associated with the element of earth and often symbolizes protection.

Wand

A tool of fire or air. Among other uses; wands are used to charge spells and bestow blessings. They can be made of wood, glass or metal and are often tipped at one or both ends with crystals. Ultimately, wands are used to direct an energy flow from yourself.

So there you have it, my favorite tools and their uses. Do you think there is something that should be on my list? Let me know so I can try it out.

As always;

Be witchy, not bitchy.
